Easy credit is a sugar high that creates malinvestment. And all the things you listed are not what I'd do. What I'd do is... * limit the Fed to currency price stability * fire Bernanke * let rates float * balance the budget within 8 years * allow the business cycles to return...down cycles play an important role in the clearing and deleveraging of market excesses that happen during up cycles * regulate the derivatives * bring back Glass-Steagall * break up the TBTFs * bring back mark to market accounting for all securities held on bank balance sheets * vigorously prosecute Wall Street fraud and criminals * increase the SEC's budget tenfold * open up Federal lands to oil and gas drilling; put a moratorium on new coal plants for the duration of my tenure; give Steve Chu a giant raise...he deserves it * cut the military by 50%, close all foreign bases in countries who have the resources to defend themselves * cut all foreign aid to Middle Eastern countries, including Israel * stop being the world's police * allow all people under the age of 55 to opt out of future Social Security benefits in return for them no longer needing to pay SS taxes * I'd return all taxes immediately to the Clinton era rates * I'd make gay civil unions legal with all rights in every state the same as those for hetero married couples, but I would make sure that all religious orgs have the right to deny a religious marriage to gay people, if it violates those religions' principals * I'd create a fast track path for immigrants with graduate degrees or Phds to become citizens and get worker permits/green cards; for all other immigrants with no criminal record, I'd create a streamlined process for them to become citizens, as long as they get their tax situation current and show evidence of tax payments for at least 3 years * I'd impose very large fines on all companies who hire illegal workers and would vigorously enforce our borders...I'd use our troops that we bring home to help with task if states are short handed Let's see. What else. I'd order both a Margharita machine and and Espresso machine for the White House. ;)
