The debates are critical. "If Romney clearly wins the first debate" Oct. 3, "he has a good chance of reversing the trajectory of the last three weeks."

Why? "Because support for Obama remains lukewarm." That's why "he is not running away with this thing even after Romney's myriad stumbles."

Finally, "the economy is still weak and the jobs report on October 5th will be pivotal. A strong one may ensure an Obama victory. On the other hand, a poor one on the heels of a Romney debate win could re-align this race."

Gee, this guy really is a genius isn't he?

It is just a little bit obvious that the weak economy is Obama's achilles heel and why he isn't way way ahead right now instead of just nicely ahead.

OK, when I say "just a little bit obvious," I mean "completely and totally obvious, such that even Herman Cain could probably see that this is so."

Noonan: Romney Needs a New CEO How to save a listing campaign, the Baker Way.
I sure hope Romney keeps screwing up. I especially want to see Obama shred him in the first debate. If Romney gets flustered, he'll say at least one really stupid thing.
