Steve, Investor's Business Daily (11/17) reported the following US sub1K pc market share as follows (Aug '97 data); Presario 4504 48% Presario 2200 19% Packard Bell 12% Acer 4% Tri Gem 3% This data shows Compaq with 67% of sub 1k pc market in US at the end of August.

The 70% or so figure is correct for the sub-zero market, of which CPQ has the lion's share. Read this for the overall retail story, it'll give you more insight about exact market segmentation => news.com Of course altogether things are quite different, and I'll try to find something that'll give a total picture for the entire DT market - however, I'm not sure if I'll be able to spend a lot of time doing so this week.
