Obama or Romney seem to be able to; that is make the election about the issues
Obama can't campaign on the important issues, because he has already failed to address any of them in his first and only term.

What Republican Presidential contest were you looking at? Do you think there was some sort of Extreme Right Inc. putting candidates out there? Here is a list of all the registered candidates for President in 2012 - several of whom I've never heard of - but anyone can run. They ranged from the libertarians Ron Paul and Gary Johnson to the socially conservative Bachmann, Cain, Santorum and Perry to the middle of the roaders Romney and Huntsman. The candidates conservatives most wanted to run, such as Paul Ryan, chose not to. The ones who lasted longest already had name recognition and/or financial support. Since Huntsman had neither he would have been better off waiting and building up a national reputation. His not breaking through the pack was his own responsibility. His complaining about the perceived "faults" of the Republican Party since then isn't going to help him any.

Gary Johnson
Kathyern Lane
Andy Martin
Jimmy McMillan
Ron Paul
Matt Snyder
Vern Wuensche
Michele Bachmann
Herman Cain
Newt Gingrich
Jon Huntsman
Fred Karger
Thad McCotter
Tom Miller
Tim Pawlenty
Rick Perry
Rick Santorum

The extreme right was looking for their ideological hero.

And yet, we ended up with Romney, who is far from a far right ideological hero. The left's attempts to paint him as a vicious right wing extremist are comical.

Romney is a middle right republican. Not far right. And he's basically an honest and good person who has good values and integrity. To say otherwise is disingenuous.
