I agree with that. It's just that I don't think you need to give the President dictatorial powers to fight terrorism. I think we have enough good laws. Even the military joint chiefs, the CIA, and FBI told the President that they don't need these powers to do their job. So if all your people in charge of fighting terrorists say they don't need it, then you have to ask why both Bush and Obama felt the need to grab this power? It's a violation of our Constitution and it should be struck down. I think your mistake is believing that the worst thing that can happen is if terrorists kill some Americans. But this isn't true. The worst thing that can happen is if the terrorists force us to dismantle the cherished freedoms that 230 years of Americans have fought and bled for and which make this country great and unlike any other.

On a related note, I watched Fareed Zakaria interview Salmun Rushdie today on CNN. I'm a big Fareed fan. Anyway, Fareed said that CNN had decided not to air the "Innocence of Islam" trailer, because the network didn't want to inflame anything further. Then Fareed asked Salmun if this is a mistake...if CNN should air that trailer. Salmun responded by talking about how one of the key things that makes the US different is that we have the 1st Amendment to our Constitution...Freedom of Speech. He said that alot of the rest of the world does not and that Americans should be more appreciative of this national treasure. He then specifically said that this is a red line that Americans should stand their ground on and fight for. He said that CNN is a news network and that if they stopped reporting on things that people didn't like, then pretty soon there wouldn't be much to report on. He said that of course CNN should have aired the video.

Salmun has it right in my opinion. My father told me that I should never in my life let anyone blackmail me or bully me. He said it's better to call the blackmailer's bluff and to fight the bully, even if he beats you bloody. He said if you don't, then what comes later will always be worse than the present consequences. Salmun understands this. We need to stand up to Muslim bullying of the rest of the Free world and not shy away from Free speech that offends them.
