" I don't think most people understand quite how serious and urgent it is."

They are right. It's not that big a deal. They know the best way to fix it is by doing nothing.
"Don't sweat the small stuff.
It's all small stuff."

Well, this is.

The best deficit fix: Do nothing

Repairing the federal budget might seem impossible, says David Leonhardt in The New York Times, but Congress can shrink the deficit dramatically without taking any action at all

No, but I don't think most people understand quite how serious and urgent it is.

That's not the problem at all. People here do think its serious. The real problem is you. Your obsession with the deficit like with the few remaining sane Rs is over the top. It makes you unreasonable and unwilling to consider compromise. Its why its so hard posting with you these days.

I have no doubt that Obama is competent and clever enough to get this issue resolved in a second term. After all, its just a matter of fairly simple arithmetic. However, it requires that he have some reasonable people to deal with in Congress. The current crop of Congressional Rs are completely unreasonable and they are the ones at whom you should be screaming. And why aren't you? Because you know damn well they will not give you the courtesy of discussing the matter with you.

The real issue facing this country is not the deficit........but the dysfunctional gov't we have and the Rs who have become radicalized and who cater to a group of people who are less informed and educated than the rest of the population. That's what keeps me up at nite........not the deficit.
