Re: Performance

Microsoft's COM model is anything but performance oriented

Compared to what? CORBA?

The point that you did get out of the tied to Windows comment was that we all have to suffer with whatever home-grown hairball Microsoft decides to give us, and it is truly a horrible mess.

Yes, you are tied to Windows. And when you write to Java, you are tied to Java and what Sun gives you, and what the VM writer gives you. I don't understand how you see Java as somehow "open" or free from the control of a single company. I completely accept the fact that a Windows app is tied to Windows.

BTW, it looks as though Sun developed Java to make Intel, IBM and about a million developers (or soon to be a million) rich

It looks that was, but mostly it was to make Sun rich. Don't get me wrong, Windows made MS rich. It also made more software companies and developers rich than any other company in history. How many software companies exist that produce only Windows software that make tons of money?

What impact do you think eSuite is going to have on Microsoft? I think you had better wake up and smell the coffee dude.

What impact? Very little. Microsoft office is far and away the most used office suite. The question is, why would people switch from MS Office to eSuite? There isn't a compelling reason to switch, which means that the MS Office base will continue to grow, although they will loose some market share to eSuite and others.
