Hi Brian,

My memory on GTW vs Dell or Compaq was that GTW was losing significant market share to both. Do you feel that GTW has turned this around, based upon the comment that "sales have soared"?

It will be interesting to see how the sales of the boxmakers and others do this quarter. It is possible that the year end buying will not be as strong this time around for many a company...but that is just a guess.

The next 30 days should start to provide more information in that regard.

Steve

brian, did you read why toshiba is leaving gtw's biggest market? check it out...

biz.yahoo.com

seems that ron crocco of toshiba (formerly of cpq) disagrees 180% with you about the market being better now - at least the consumer segment. that is, unless you make money on sub $1k pcs. gtw doesn't even have one. hp does. for $880 ;-) with free monitor and no shipping. plus you get to pick your own printer and you can get one cheap. i did :-)

time will tell, though, and i do not know the future. i very well could be wrong. however, when i did the numbers and subtracted out all the internal stuff you are talking about in the last financial report there was very little profit left. therefore, even when the one time do dads are out, gtw still didn't do well. i don't see a systemic change that would improve gtw's results this q. unless consumers line up to spend $400 extra for the privilege of buying gtw through the mail. hey, they might. i've seen dumber things. like mu at $60 ;-)

i just don't think it is the best way to bet.
