Mq, at the risk of getting into a semantic contest with you, I'd like to point out that gold is not oil, a proposition which is easily proven by the fact that there are exceptions to your theory - they invalidate it.

Oil is not necessary to extract gopld because one could use electricity generated by a nuclear reactor or a coal-fired electrical plant. Because it is possible to use non-petroleum sources of energy to mine, transport and refine gold, it is clear that gold is not oil or vice versa.
