Blankmind, I am compelled to comment on your idea of a COMS and ASND merger. While COMS could surely weave ASND products into their offerings, and there is surely a benefit to combining the two companies, I would have to wonder at what price? 8 Billion, would indeed be good, but I doubt that COMS sees that kind of value from such a merger, because I sure don't. The harsh facts with regard to ASND is that it is a company doing a little over 1 Billion a year in sales, that carries a market cap of almost 5 Billion. I don't think that ASND with it's shrinking market share and increased levels of competition, is yet worth even the 5 Billion, it commands today. So I don't see any merger in the works primarily because ASND is still too expensive, even at 25. Maybe when sales get to 2 Billion a year.

Inre to your comment that COMS and ASND are battling over the 56K standard, I think that it is better characterized as a battle between COMS and ROK. ASND is most likely bound contractually by ROK to only being able to offer 1 flavor of 56K. I believe this is the basis of ROK/BAY suits. Not being able to offer x2 as well, surely has hurt ASND. ASND management must take responsibility for this situation they have gotten themselves into.

Blankmind, WOW! You did not leave any detail uncovered<G> I have wondered if the DOJ would approve based on the fact ASND/COMS would have 65% of the RAS market. I have been looking for a large miracle with both COMS and ASND and am not paricular as to how it comes about. Glenn

Interesting take blankmind--proving your moniker does not reflect reality. I think the only companies capable/willing to purchase ASND would be COMS or LU. I still can't figure why LU purchased Livingston when they should have gone after ASND to begin with.

>6. not much overlap - with coms more focused on the lan and asnd focused on the internet, they fit together without much redundancy. if they work together to have their products work together then sales can be from end to end, and they could shutout csco.<

Have to disagree on this point. Total Control is head to head against the MAX/TNT. However, I don't think COMS has much on the Frame Relay side of the shop, so the analogy is correct here.

What do you think of ASND in the mid-20's? I would have never believed it one year ago. After the New Year, it seems there would be much more upside than downside.

Hal

<<further perspective and who might now be purchasing asnd.

we have the lu camp.
we have the cpq camp.
we have the ibm camp.>>

blankmind:

the "reality" we will all most likely "experience" over the next six months is sometimes expressed on this thread by yet another camp.

we have the no one camp.
