All: Nasdq futures ask up 21. S&P up about 8. Here's my wild and reckless guess re IOM open: up - no reaction to Barrons.

We'll see.

Confessions of a lurker
Alternate Title: How my Jaz drive doubled by money

Since our beloved IOM is probably going to drop today (temporarily) thanks to our friends at Barron's, I thought I'd share my story with all of you. It was 1 year ago today, December 1, that I bought my Jaz drive. I loved it (still do). A few months after I bought it, I was visiting the Iomega web site looking for some technical info on my jaz. It was a lazy Sunday afternoon, and I was bored, so I just started exploring the Iomega site, seeing what else was there. I had almost run out of links to click on, when I noticed the little icon in the lower left corner called "Investor Relations". At the time, I didn't know the first thing about investing - all I knew about the stock market was that it was a big, scary place that mere mortals like myself had no business sticking our noses in. But I was curious, so I entered the IOM Investor Relations page. While there, I read something about the Zip possibly becoming the new standard to replace the floppy, and I thought to myself, "You know, if that happens, this company could make an obscene amount of money...If I knew anything about the stock market, I would buy stock in this company." But I didn't know anything about stocks, so I shrugged it off and went on to other things. But the seed had been planted. I kept going back to that one thought, the thought that Iomega could be the next Microsoft, or the next Intel. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I started searching for information on investing. I discovered SI, the Motley Fool, countless other sites with information on investing. I went to the library, the bookstore, learned as much as I could about stocks, and about investing in general. I was hooked. I opened an account, and bought my first shares of IOM at 17 1/8 in May (could have bought it at 14 had I not spent so much time playing the "should I or shouldn't I...?" game). And the rest, as they say, is history.

And I owe it all to that little green box called Jaz. Had I not bought that Jaz drive last december, I never would have visited the Iomega web site on that lazy afternoon. Had I not visited the Iomega web site that day, my money would still be rotting away in a savings acount earning a whopping 2.1% annually. My money has nearly doubled, my Jaz has paid for itself many times over (and I recently rewarded it by buying it a little brother named Zip to keep it from getting lonely), and I now know that the stock market isn't such a scary place after all.

If you got this far, thank you for reading. And thank you to all the regulars (and the irregulars?) on this message board - I owe all of you a huge debt of gratitude for the information I have gained here.
Go IOM!
