Seems to me the very idea of trying to associate with others of a similar bent is in fact sliding toward another form of religion...which is part of the original problem Exactly what I was thinking as I read the piece. We believe this, we believe that. Atheist dogma is still dogma. I reject it. I believe what I believe, which is, naturally, similar to what many others believe, but perhaps different in small ways. I call myself an agnostic, because while I don't believe there's a God who created the heavens and the earth, and so forth, nor a dragon, nor a turtle, or any that, I always remember that my own knowledge of the universe is woefully limited, and so I'm not going to claim I know for certain. The term "faith" has been corrupted to mean "the acceptance of an entire body of doctrine, including rules for living, without examination or question." That's not something I wouldn't be capable of even if I wanted to do it. It doesn't matter what you promise me the reward will be for believing something. What I need is something I recognize as proof. So I can no more be religious than I can be a wombat. I'm out here looking at the world, trying to figure out how all this works, but mostly just getting a kick out of the ride. It's OK not to know.
