The "nod" from the government doesn't make Big Pharma altruistic. For example, Big Pharma does a lot of advertising straight to doctors and straight to consumers. They are under strict guidelines and regulations by the government, yet none of this advertising is meant to be as "altruistic" as you claim every employee of Big Pharma is. Instead, all of this advertising is meant to do one thing, which is to increase the volume of sales. I see all the time when Lipitor is being advertised. "Why switch?" the ads claim. Maybe because cheaper alternatives are available that are just as effective? Don't tell me it's because you really care about the patients as if they're your own family. That's a load of bull. By the way, Big Pharma got a huge break from ObamaCare. That's just one of many contradictions that ObamaCare exploits. Big Insurance is "evil" but Big Pharma is on your side? Baloney. I didn't expect you to understand it. Oh I understood it all right. The question is whether you understand what exactly you were referring to. "Emergency room health care" is a favorite defense for those supporting socialized medicine. They claim that since emergency rooms can't turn anyone away, socialized medicine is actually a "cost savings" measure because we'll reduce the number of people going to emergency rooms just to treat minor conditions. What that argument fails to acknowledge is that those who go to the ER just for the common cold are already abusing the system. The key word in ER is EMERGENCY and if people show up there just to get free health care, they are taking advantage of services that are meant for emergencies and crises. There are other ways to deal with this abuse, such as free clinics and other basic health services offered by state and local governments. But to say that universal health care will "save money" because it will stop this abuse is a non sequitur . Tenchusatsu
