Exactly right.

A lot of people would never consider the University of Alabama (rednecks, football, fraternities, etc.). However, it has a stellar honors program. Any kid who can wrangle a scholarship from it would be foolish not to consider taking it. Top notch.

My kids qualified for the Johns Hopkins program but were not motivated to do it. Maybe I should have made them do it, but I am not a tiger mother.

Maybe they would have gotten ahead further and faster if I had been. But done is done.

They both were in the Fairfax County gifted and talented program, which is very enriched, and I did take them to the Smithsonian museums, National Zoo, National Gallery, historical sites, etc., every weekend.

They both have good jobs, and have never given me a moment of trouble. They are happy and well adjusted.

I often wonder whether it would have been better to limit the computer games, but the older one really lives for gaming.
