Walmart now employs more people than any world public company

Yes, and it costs us plenty!
  • Walmart's low wages force employees to need approximately $420,000 per year, per store, totalling $2.66 BILLION annually in Food Stamps and other taxpayer assistance ... to survive.
  • Walmart's low wages cost the country HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars in payroll tax deductions for Federal, State, and Local taxes.
  • Walmart's low wages and lack of covered benefits cost taxpayers over $1.02 BILLION a year in healthcare costs. In 2004, California taxpayers spent $86 million providing healthcare and other public assistance to the state’s 44,000 Wal-Mart employees.
  • Walmart's low wages cost taxpayers as much as $225 MILLION in free and reduced price lunches for school-age children.
  • Walmart's low wages cost taxpayers over $780 MILLION in tax deductions for low-income families.

  • Yes, people have a choice and don't need to work there; then they end up on welfare since WMT has closed many of the smaller stores that previously employed them.

Not sure whether that balances out a 50 cent savings on a package of paper towels.
