This is STUPID. The heart of the world's financial center was destroyed. It was clear it would plunge us into long, difficult wars. The airline industry was killed by it. Perhaps you've forgotten what happened to Las Vegas and other tourist destinations after that.

Of course it was a body slam.

The only reason you're now saying it wasn't is because Bush's excellent (beyond excellent, actually) economic policy pulled us up.

It does matter, and it is an age-old argument that liberals have lost since the day of Keynes. Even Keynes, according to the best economist of modern times (Milton Friedman), wouldn't conclude today that Keynesian spending works. Because it is clear it doesn't.
