Really, you think it is shifting back to Libertarian? I thought it was moving in the other direction which is the Tea Party's way.

Both libertarian and conservative (as in traditionalist / social conservative) views are considered to be on the right, but they are different. Easy way to distinguish is that libertarians want government out of people's lives, they want to shrink the government. Social conservatives are not too eager to do that (GWB, Santorum), and they even want to enlist the government in promoting some social conservative ideas.

You are by no means alone in misreading the Tea Party. It is a widespread phenomenon. Tea Party came to existence as a response to Obamacare, the debt (spending) crises and bailouts, not because of social issues (gay marriage, abortion etc). Check out the web site of Freedom Works:

As far as trends within GOP, that somewhat libertarian Romney won the primaries and the best the social conservatives could achieve was a tie for 2nd/3rd place between very libertarian Ron Paul and very conservative Santorum would I think confirm this trend.

I think the Romney campaign is prudent in not having Romney make that statement to gain the remaining 3% undecideds. If he did, he may lose around 6% of those committed to him now. But he gave a hint and sort of agreed with your statement when he told the Iowa newspaper that he has no plans for passing a abortion legislation.

15 days is not enough time and 15 before election is bad timing to have this conversation...
