you get bloodied and you are out of business. you figure if you come back in, the big competitor will reduce prices again to put you out of business again.

I can't say I agree with you about this.

Sometimes, it just isn't practical. In the MSFT example, we're still using Word today, even though until the giveaway of Word, a program called Word Perfect held an absolute lock on the entire word processing industry.

Predatory pricing is an extremely powerful weapon. I don't think the public is well served by allowing it without any controls at all.
