Ok I did not follow that nuance in Steve's position ..and to an extent, I agree with the argument that reducing revenue to the SS system is not an optimum solution However, being the consummate pragmatist that he is, Obama recognizes that there is a bit of a time buffer in the funding available to the SS trust fund and as a stopgap measure, this was preferable to the GOP desire to simply shut down the government Rather than rail against a leader who is trying to keep the US as a going concern, seems to me that energy would be more effectively directed at dumping the silly assholes who are being led around by Grover Norquist But that assumes a level of understanding of economics that includes both revenue and expenditures
