It is still not possible to buy, or even order, an iMac.
That is weird. Perhaps because the new products are so close they don't want to continue selling the previous generation anywhere but in stores. Must have worked down inventory pretty thin.

Phil indicated iMac will be shipping in November (21.5") and December (27").

It strikes me that they're likely having an extremely rocky divorce with Samsung - and anything with an LCD panel in it just had to be re-sourced in a hurry. And yet they felt they had to announce before it was all rock solid. Curious.

Not a pretty transition - we'll see how many days they think they can stretch this out to. Out of character for recent Apple, but M. Jobs at times asked a lot of his customers…

Go to MacMall or one of the other outlets to buy last week's model. Cook or Schiller said that the new iMacs have a date of Nov. and Dec.

What the hell?

That really is weird. I had expressed a concern about the new iMac models negatively affecting sales for this quarter, but I didn't think Apple would simply kill the old models dead.

Yeah, I don't get it either.

At a minimum Apple should allow preorders. An availability time of "November" certainly isn't precise.

As I mentioned before, my father has been waiting on a new iMac since May, due to the rumor that it would have a new anti-reflective screen. Turns out it does, with 75% less glare than the previous generation, according to the Apple keynote.

I guess he'll have to wait some more. :-(
