Proving the counterfactual is problematic. So it leads folks like you to make ridiculous statements such as "if Bush and Obama had not engaged massive bailouts and stimulus, things would be much worse". Well, maybe. Or maybe all the debt would have been flushed out, corrupt and unsustainable business and fraudulent banks would have gone bankrupt, and the economy would have been reset for sustainable, rapid growth. It's all hypothetical. I think it is over the top to call Obama a national hero. This has been a terrible recovery and we're now slowing down again rapidly. He and Bush before him have spent trillions with nothing to show for it. These sugar highs are not the way forward. We need to address the structural issues and the root causes.
