You conservatives value money and we liberals value wisdom. You don't even seem to understand what knowledge is, or that is primarily what college is for. To learn. It is not just for making money. The first objective is the development of the mind which is in the best interest of the person; and society. Development of the mind increases awareness of the universe. People are not born knowing how to think. If that were true we would not have lived in caves for hundreds of thousands of years. Learning is a lifelong experience and the most important thing anyone can do, except be kind. That is the other thing conservatives seem to come up short on: compassion and kindness. Speaking for my kids they were never pushed. I strongly do not believe in that. In fact I suggested they only take 12 units instead of 15, so they would have more time to have fun. I wanted them to have the full fun experience of college: sex, drugs and rock and roll-lol. And my ex and I paid for everything, including buying them cars and sending them to Europe. My older daughter was miss goody two shoes? Neither had any rules and were never disciplined. And both turned out to be kick ass good kids with great marriages and family lives. And I never, not once had to tell either to do their homework. Not once, and both were honor students all through school. They knew the FUN of learning. And both are fine citizens. Education is usually a top priority in liberal households, so the kids learn how to study at a young age. They both love school. I loved school. My younger kid is still taking classes at 30 and she works full time. My other reads endless books. Once the mind is adequately developed, it can learn other things very quickly and also make better decisions Something else conservatives come up short on. Making good decisions-lol. E.g. knowing Bush would be a disaster and what a criminal Romney is and what a good guy Obama is. <<Our son went to a two year college, punted on going to UCSD because he said the computer science programs are 5 years out of date to current technology. At 22 he was making $95,000 as a application programmer, and bought his first house in San Diego County at 23. He has no Student Debt, and is decades ahead in financial terms versus his friends who graduated from a four year school saddled with $150k in Student Debt. The problem today is that children are pushed by parents to attend "prestigious universities" and take out huge loans to get degrees with largely little commercial value, so their parents can tout to there friends or on internet chat forums that " my johnny went to Berkley ". Leaving the kids with huge financial obligations. Then attempt to blame the Government for providing them a loan for a education with no commercial value. Somehow claiming that the Government shoulf have vetted their loan application to make sure their choice of education has commercial value. PCSTEL
