I enjoy all the longs being positive on this thread, how many weeks has it been since we've seen that? I liked Bill's comment on Yahoo getting free money from the internet. Where there is free money, moochers will show up, i.e. more competition.

Short.

Rob

GOOD NEWS!! YAHOO NOW WORTH MORE THAN NETSCAPE!!

...and to think that Yahoo has to pay Netscape money.

It should be the other way around!

You're right Peter, we don't need no stinkin' shorties trying to keep us from closing our eyes and buying, do we?

A better Microsoft search engine?

That thought has been rumored before. I just read the Fortune article on MSFT's research efforts. In it, they describe their work on deciphering sentences and other natural language processing efforts. They made a reference to Bill Gates discussing the application of the research to a better web-searching agent.

This makes sense and I imagine that soon, Microsoft will unveil a souped up search engine to replace HotBot. Not sure whether this will be part of MSN, but I can't imagine Gates et al will pass up an area of business where the barriers are so low (esp. if you have Microsoft's position with MSN and Internet Explorer and great agent + natural language research efforts) and the rewards so great (look at YHOO).

So I cashed out 18% of my QNTM and shorted YHOO at 52 7/8 to hedge against possible market downturns. This looks like a long-term short for me where I'm willing to hold past 65 if it ever breaks old high at 58. YHOO is great service but barriers are low and their valuation is ridiculous.

p.s. Please set up a YHOO clubhouse so we can reserve this thread for meaningful discussion and not silly sarcastic banter using dozens of messages.
