While appearing on Fox News Saturday, Pat Caddell, a former Democratic strategist and pollster who worked for Jimmy Carter, excoriated the so-called "mainstream media" for their coverage of the Benghazi attack and what appears to be a cover up by the Obama administration.

"It just comes out, Pat, that the CIA operative on the ground asked for help three times. The New York Times doesn't cover it. A front page from yesterday, and a front page from today, and they don't even mention it, Pat," Jeanine Pirro said.

Caddell responded by saying that CBS and other networks have "been in the tank" for Obama in a way that he has never seen before.

Video: Pat Caddell: Media a threat to American democracy"I am appalled right now," he told Pirro. "This White House, this president, this vice president, the secretary of state, all of them are willing apparently to dishonor themselves and this country for the cheap prospect of getting reelected, willing to cover up and lie, and the worst thing is, the very people who are supposed to protect the American people and the truth, the leading mainstream media... they have become a threat, a fundamental threat to American democracy and the enemies of the American people."

"What I saw with Ty Woods’ father and family and the outrage I feel for my country and the shame that these people have no honor, and when will people finally say it? Cover-up is too nice a word, and the media is the one that it’s worse on," he added.

But Caddell wasn't finished, and said that if any other president had responded the way Obama did, he would have been "crucified" by the media.

"This president didn’t care enough to stay in the White House and, quote, 'find out what was going on' the next day," he said. "Now I know why he didn’t meet with his national security adviser. And why he got on a plane and went to a fundraiser, an act, if any president, Democrat or Republican, prior to this had done while the consulate was smoldering, would have been crucified. I’ve said it. This is, I’ll tell you, I’m so personally, not politically, but personally nauseated by this."

Caddell has been highly critical of the media, calling them the " enemy of the American people" in September.

In early October, he told Fox News' Bill O'Reilly that the media is purposefully suppressing news that would hurt Obama.

A poll released by Gallup in September showed that distrust of the media is at an all time high, " "with 60% saying they have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly."
