>> You do know that there are companies that sell covers/physical keyboards for the iPad

But the Surface keyboard cover is extraordinarily light and thin, travels as part of the device, includes a click track-pad and is a fully OS integrated first party device, designed to fundamentally just work with the Surface and Windows RT.

Wrap it around the back, the keyboard turns off. Disconnect it, the on-screen keyboard automatically appears as needed. Kick out the stand, and you have a laptop. Close it on the cover, and the surface hibernates.

There is no comparison. If you tried one out, I am certain you would agree. The surface keyboard is truly and genuinely a revolutionary input device. The way the Surface sucks the keyboard into a properly connected magnetic interlock that allows the cover to be both hinged and removable is something to behold as well.

There are also about a kazillion companies that make $10 off the shelf USB keyboards that would work with the Surface too. There are also standards-based bluetooth keyboards woould work. No kickbacks to Redmond necessary- if you want something less expensive, you can get something MUCH less expensive, too. If lugging two separate items around is your bag... its not mine.

Me, I'll go with the Surface Keyboard cover (tactile flavor) with integrated trackpad.

Don't you just hate the way they price stuff on Amazon right below the cutoff level for free shipping...
