<<Yahoo! is evolving into an internet community>>

How right you are Peter. I can't tell you how many times I hear complete strangers on the street saying that they can't wait to get home and join the yahoo internet community. It's the highlight of their day!

Soon Yahoo will have over a billion page views per day! Yahoo will be the most recognizable brand name on the planet within another month!!!!

You miss my point. Microsoft has all the key elements to depose Yahoo's position. They have the natural language + agent technology for a better search engine. They have content like MSFT Investor and MSN. They have a name, a label which can easily compete with YHOO.

And unlike Yahoo, they control one of the 2 main browsers and also dictate the majority of the operating systems used with computers.

Yahoo's multi-billion $ market cap has not gone unnoticed. Not by the shorts. Not by any of the companies involved with the Internet.

YHOO cap is a non-trivial % of Microsoft's market cap. This is no small reminder to Gates et al. that there is some low-hanging fruit to be picked. The question is not "if" ... the question is "when." And I'm willing to be short YHOO when MSFT announces a direct competitor. The free advertising for all of MSFT products and their investments (cable TV, web TV, etc) would be worth the cost of such a service.
