great quote from De Toqueville....one would think this would be reflected in our current thinking about democracy, but seems to be tucked safely out of mind with severe determination....

on the bright side, the democrats will own the collapse which seems almost certain at some point in the next 4 years...(although since all of us seem to see this collapse one wonders if it will ever materialize at all)...on the dark side, I dont think Obama et al will blink for a minute at the chance to move us further towards dictatorship, while the republicans would at least feel badly about it...

While events seem to be hopelessly out of our individual control, there is one area in which we each have almost complete control, ie, the content of our own thinking...

Yes, we know the elegant answer even as we only whisper the terrible simple question of debt / obligations / entitlements.

THEY also know the answer, but that which is the ugly side of our elegant answer,

The answer is getgold / add zero(s) to paper.

Elegant and ugly.

But first, let us get done w/ the cliff, as that is impactful and sooner.

Maybe the two parties must now get along for awhile.

I am an optimist.
