The war refers to the fact that the right is literally opposed to science on a broad front. Climate science being indeed one of the battles, just like evolution. But the same war has other battle fronts even in economics. Have you noticed how much the right hates higher education? Its not just the social sciences in academia they hate. They pretty much hate it all. Read up on the creation of Think Tanks and Irving Kristol. You need to kneecap Right Wing Science before you can make any progress. Further, it is Libertarians who brought this nonsense on the Right, not the religious fruitcakes, so don't blame the funddies for this problem.

A disagreement on man-made global warming is just a battle.

I'd consider "global warming" to be more of a religion, with that scientific genius, Al Gore, as one of the high priests. If it's too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet, whatever the weather may bring, it's "global warming" or the now preferred term "climate change". And any scientist who doesn't toe the line and spout the dogma will soon find his or her taxpayer financed, government grants in a permanent drought..
