True for many PCs that I've worked on - usually windows but ocassionally Linux.

In addition :
I have an iMac (white frame) that gets graphics problems (intermittant streaks, dots, bad refresh when moving windows )and at some undefined point it slows down and freezes. Reboot fixes the problem but some functions don't work. I was using it as a license server and after reboot it would not pick up the Mac ID# and the clients would lose the license.

Only after a complete shut down and unplug would it come back working fully.

IT sort ofbdiagnosed (if you call looking at it and shaking their heads "diagnosing") that it was motherboard, and since out of AppleCare I should buy a new computer. Which I did but I still keep this old one due to Rosetta. If you don't so things too fast,it behaves so its still usable. I did move the server to the new Mac which never complains.
