Arun, this is about the biggest consolidation move that could have occurred without Trimble being merged. The new entity is about half TRMB's size in employees and revenues, but we have to take a look at Orbital's resources to get a better picture. The competition is getting tougher.

Ashtech itself is being valued at about $75 million. It would be nice to know its previous revenues and profits if only to get another valuation on TRMB. It's interesting, but not surprising, that Ashtech's revenues and profits were not described. I think it's worth noting that Ashtech decided to get bought out rather than try to take on Trimble by itself.

Where's our Ashtech alum to give perspective?

Not precisely.

The Ashtech/Magellan merger is final. Magellan was a wholly owned
(privately held) subsidiary of Orbital. The merged entity will be
jointly held by Orbital and existing Ashtech shareholders (privately
held, again). Management will be under existing Ashtech corporate
structure.

I think this is good for Ashtech , but have no additional information.

ps. Magellan IS a nicer name than Ashtech :-)
