So, you're saying that my intentional misspelling wasn't a misspelling after all? Oh well, that's okay. I couldn't resist the opportunity to fling some of it back.

MCI Announces Nationwide Support for 56K Technology
11:31 a.m. Dec 02, 1997 Eastern

WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI today announced that it is
deploying 3Com Corporation's x2 technology nationwide for high-speed
local and 800 dial-up connectivity to the Internet at speeds up to 56Kbps*.

Beginning today, MCI's dial-up customers in most major cities will benefit from
faster modem speeds and quicker download times on the world's fastest Internet
backbone. MCI has completed its x2 rollout in 280 cities to date with a total of 300
local dial cities planned for support by the end of this month.

"As more consumers use the Internet as an everyday resource, they will
increasingly need cutting-edge technology with greater access speeds," said David
Trachtenberg, director of MCI Internet, MCI's consumer Internet offering. "MCI is
committed to providing its Internet subscribers with state- of-the art technology that
will best enhance their online experience and enable them to fully leverage the
power of the Internet."

3Com's x2 technology provides significantly faster download speeds from the
Internet and corporate intranets over the standard public telephone network. The
new service speed is ideal for individuals that need faster Web downloads, file
transfers and access to corporate information.

"The world's fastest Internet network just got faster," said John Scarborough,
director of internetMCI, MCI's business Internet service. "MCI continues to
enhance its Internet services in order to meet customers needs. And customers --
consumers and remote business users alike -- want speed and services that allow
for a more enjoyable and efficient Internet experience."

"MCI's wide deployment of x2 technology gives its Internet subscribers a better
way to download the rich graphical content of the Internet," said Ross Manire,
senior vice president, 3Com Carrier Systems. "When the ITU (International
Telecommunications Union) V.PCM standard for 56 Kbps is unveiled, MCI and its
subscribers both will be able to upgrade their 3Com x2 equipment to the standard
for free."

MCI is using 3Com's Total Control remote access concentrators, designed for
carriers, ISPs and corporate enterprises that need to support hundreds, thousands or
millions of remote users or Internet subscribers.

About MCI

MCI, headquartered in Washington, D.C., offers the industry's most comprehensive
portfolio of communication services. With 1996 revenues of $18.5 billion, MCI
ranks as one of the world's largest telecommunications companies. MCI is also the
world's second largest carrier of international traffic and operates one of the
world's most advanced Internet networks. Since its founding in 1968, MCI has been
a leader in bringing the benefits of long distance competition to businesses and
consumers and is now leading the charge to open U.S. local calling markets to
competition. On November 10, 1997, MCI announced a definitive merger
agreement with WorldCom, Inc. to form a new company called MCI WorldCom.

*All x2 products are capable of 56 Kbps downloads; however, due to FCC rules
which restrict the power output of service providers' modems, current download
speeds are limited to 53 Kbps. Actual speeds may vary depending on line
conditions. Uploads from end users to service providers travel at speeds up to 28.8
Kbps. An x2 modem, an analog phone line compatible with x2 technology, and an
Internet Service Provider with x2 service are required for these high-speed
downloads. See www.usr.com/x2 for details.

Guaranteed upgrade to ITU-T 56K standard for MCI customers applies to all
currently available Sportster(R) 56K desktop faxmodems, Courier(tm) 56K desktop
faxmodems, and Megahertz(R) 56K PC Card modems. This offer is valid in the
U.S. and Canada only through 6/30/98.
