Seems to me hat HK exists at the Mainland's whim... It's an experiment..

Mr Simpson misunderstands HK and its people.

The folks here do not want independence. The Cantonese do not care much who rules over them, as long as they do not actually try to exercise the rule.

The Cantonese of Guangdong province on the mainland also demonstrated against some edict that stipulated use of mandarin dialect. Out went the edict.

HK government is very good, meaning responsive, in that any street demonstration reverses the government's decision, whatever the decision, whereas street demonstrations cannot force government to make any decision in the affirmative on any topic to begin with.

Truth is simple. For those HK folks who refuse to engage with the motherland, they shall starve, have their assets bought up by those who embrace the mainland, and get to work as servants.
