You have to govern for everyone. But that doesn't mean you can give everyone everything they want. Children have no lobby, which is why seniors have pretty much raided the cookie jar- spending wise. I don't think that's fair. And no, money is not unlimited, and we can't give everything to everyone. I want to see money allocated less stupidly. The American Actuaries think the age should be raised. I would tend to believe them over Dean, who I do not think knows everything. As I said in a previous post, if it doesn't save money, don't do it, but if it does then do it. And yes, old people want hand outs. You need to read some of the wing nuts talk about how excited they are about raping the system to get all those luscious bennies. They don't need them, and they'd means test out of them, but they are happier than pigs in shit to get that extra money (paid for by their poor kids and grandkids). While I am a democrat, I'm not very happy about supporting people on the government tit who don't need it. And some people have tough lives and tough jobs- no doubt about it, tough titty. I'm not looking for government to rebalance the universe. Sure we can have safety nets but you may not be super happy cuddling up in them, and I'm ok with that. And i don't know what kind of teachers you know, but I hardly sit at all, all day long. I wonder how long I'll be able to teach. I honestly don't know. I'll try to do something else if I can't teach, but if I have a big chunk of change saved, I don't deserve my kids' money, regifted to me through the government, because I can't work- unless I am disabled (and I paid 100% for my disability insurance). If that's right wing, then so be it. I've never worried about where my beliefs fell on the political continuum. I try to go for what's logical. I'm not trying to tow a party line.
