Linda, to be honest I'm stunned by the after-hours activity. Wall Street usually rewards a stock that agressively attacks an inventory problem, particularly if it's an adjustmentment to a more conservative, and therefore predictible channel policy. Besides, there were a number of analysts that expected 3Com to throw out the quarter to fix the problem once and for all, and that's exactly what they did.

I'll be watching very closely at the open for a weak-hand sell off. I may represent an excellent opportunity for a long position, best leveraged with '99 leaps, IMO.

It sure makes me wonder if this is not good news rather than bad. It appears to be a needed move, and the timing is really not that bad.

COMS will still be making a profit and the ANALysts have changed their estimates consistantly this Qtr., which indicates to me they were not sure of things themselves.

I'm sure the price will flop all around, but, long term this looks good. It may even show in March. IMO After all there was just a merger.

Here's something for you to think about..... my friend told me this afternoon that a lady used to work for COMS came to his company for an interview. She said during the summer months, her group was so busy with orders that everyone in her division worked 6 days a week. And recently, business became so slow that COMS laid off her entire division.

Linda,

I agree with your post. It's funny that a company can tell the world of their intention to take a big loss for "restructuring" and the stock will often go up. Look at the history of AT&T -- they have used that ploy about every three years for 12+ years (just from memory, not fact, used to work for them). Is this different?

Well, tomorrow could be a pan-handler's holiday. Just have to watch closely, avoid the falling knife, and buy the bottom.

John
