In my experience Mac's are great products and you pay a premium for them. I've built and support a few PC's ( Teamviewer is nice ) and they, like Mac's, need updating and some devoted time to keep the OS and drivers running as they should.

You didn't say what your usage is, the size screen or the budget you're thinking.

I know you said you don't want to learn anything new. These appear to be simple and relatively inexpensive.

Samsung Chromebook $249 Acer $199. I'd probably pay the extra for the Samsung.

I've never used a Chromebook. Watch these video's and see if you're interested and if it might fit your needs.

New laptops with Win 8 will have IE 10 installed. There is no way to downgrade to IE 8. You can right click in the blank space at the top to get the same menus as IE 8 though.

Here are some laptops with long battery lives. They are probably pretty expensive though.
