Yes, greetings, Ed, we simply disagree here. I'm for what you oppose, a widespread public conversation on gun safety, gun control, whatever, the one the Clinton administration effectively stopped in 1994.

To my mind there are two large reasons for doing so. The first is that we need to alter the culture around guns. There are many ways to do so but one is to enable large scale public discussions about the issue(s). The 1994 decision made it much harder to have them. Political movements flourish best when there are such conversations.

The second reason is the one several folk are talking about now, but Krugman most prominently. And that is the Obama administration has carved out a national political constituency that can win independently of the south, where much of this kind of opposition lies. It's not the strongest of arguments; one need only think of rural areas in PA and Ohio to have some misgivings. But I think it's time to test the strength of the argument.

ya gotta start somewhere

Boxer (or Feinstein) will be introducing legislation to restore the, common sense, assault weapon ban that the NRA got dropped during the Bush administration

The state police confirmed this morning that this is the type of kiddie killer that was used to slaughter all of them..

...and this weapon is available for what?

Target practice? ..you can't use it to hunt, game wardens don't allow it

Deer apparently have better protection than Connecticutt kindergartners
