For example... let's say I think emission controls should be higher on autos... under your definition I would be a hypocrite if I didn't figure out a way to cut the emissions on my car....

If you could solve it simply by writing a check I would agree with you. Can you simply write a check to cut your vehicle's emissions? Or would it involve other people engineering solutions that the engineers either did not envision or excluded due to planned obsolescence?

The fact remains that nothing is stopping you from paying what you believe is a fair rate but hypocrisy. A typical wingnut strategy is to claim you believe something but fail to practice what you preach.
