The gov will be making the decision... That's the totalitarian part. It's not that far of a leap to confiscating other things in the name of safety.

In fact it is already happening everywhere.

Why is it totalitarian to think that every idiot in the country shouldn't be able to own a semi automatic rifle with a 30 round clip?

Hmmm, where to begin. It's not totalitarian to think whatever you want to think. It is totalitarian to impose those thoughts on everyone else, as the NY governor is saying he's contemplating doing.

Should (and that includes shouldn't) is a stupid word and it leads to stupid thoughts.

When semi-automatic weapons with 30 round clips are illegal, only the idiots in the country will own them. I'm always surprised when people (you, in this case) miss the obvious point that making something illegal doesn't make it go away.

.
I'll bet if your neighbor was walking back and forth into his house with one all the time you'd think differently

I'd bet you are wrong about this, if I had a realistic possibility of taking your money, betting here on the internet. Your "I'll bet" is a gratuitous attempt to put how you feel about your neighbors on Ms. Neeka, who really seems to be a magnet for a certain kind of poster recently. I surmise you are uncomfortable with your neighbors being armed. My guess is that many don't share your discomfort; I know I don't. You might want to consider moving and getting better neighbors. Or stay where you are and advocate the totalitarian view that your neighbors do as you say since you have such a clear view of the greatest good for the greatest number. You're a totalitarian (not that there's anything wrong with that), proclaim it, be proud, come out of the closet and own it.

a semi automatic rifle with a 30 round clip

I think you should google

a semi automatic rifle with a 30 round clip

and ban all the manufacturers designated 30 round clips you can find.
I'll even throw away an 8 round clip. It fits the M-1 rifle. You know! The gun that won WWII.

Then go home, lock the doors, and stay there because you are dangerous, and a genuine hazard to freedom.

Why don't you substitute a First Amendment right in there and see for yourself.

"Why is it totalitarian to think that every idiot in the country shouldn't be able to freely criticize the President or Congress?"

I'm going out of town for the weekend, but thought I'd leave a short reply to your post. I've read through the comments and I appreciate those who came to my defense.

This is my conundrum. I don't know why you refuse to accept the fact that Governor Cuomo's statement displays a bent towards totalitarian thinking? It does, and if he were to act upon his threat he would unleash horrors beyond comprehension. People who accept the premise that an elected official possesses more rights..........such as imposing his decisions upon others without their approval through force............. than they are naive. Further more, they show their ignorance and lack of respect for our founding documents and a total lack of regard for their fellow law abiding citizens. I find that kind of thinking to be very selfish and outside the bounds of knowledge and understanding of who we are and what guides us. Actually, I will give you and your liberal peers the benefit of the doubt and surmise you all fully understand our Constitution, but that you frankly don't really give a damn. The largest obstacle that stands between me and you and the kind of man Governor Cuomo can only dream of becoming is the Constitution. I will use it and it's full force to stop him and any other person who thinks they have the power to "confiscate" that which belongs to me.

As for you threatening neighbor. Why have you not reported your fears to the local authorities? If I had a neighbor who was carelessly brandishing a weapon and I was that concerned, I'd document that concern with the local authorities.

Have a good weekend.

Actually,i would love it if my neighbor had an automatic rifle with a 30 round clip..i bot him some buckshot and slugs for his shotgun, and he's glad i have the armory i do..."When every second counts the police are only minutes away"..

And a New York newspaper recently published a list of all the local gun permit holders as an attack..It's going to be funny when the folks NOT on the list are targeted by criminals...easy marks like yourself..

I challenge you to put a sign in your yard "i do not have any guns or weapons",lol...
