Much less true of the Koch brothers ability to move the Republican caucus. They and their allies are the reason no new taxes is the code of that caucus. It's their ability to mobilize a great many of them. But, more important, their ability to threaten almost any Republican in congress with a primary opponent to their right. The Lugar and Bennett and other lessons have gone deep.

<<<<< The defining thing about the Tea Party is that it isn't a party at all - it has no platform or uniform agenda other than some vaguely anti-government, anti-tax, anti-immigrant, anti-minority and pro-gun sentiments>>>>>

Anti, anti, anti! You seem to fail to remember that these Tea Party people were elected. They are doing nothing more than representing the interest of the people in their districts. It's not as if they are some evil aliens for gosh sake! You may find it troubling that they are there, but that is how our government works.

BUT, having said what I just did, I think you miss the entire issue that many people - including the majority in Tea Party districts - have. The issue is NOT so much that people are anti government or anti tax - it's that they believe we shouldn't be recklessly spending way more than we conceivably have the ability to pay back. Since alllllllllllllll their effort in the past has done nothing to move the needle on debt, they in frustration, have elected what we collectively call today the Tea Party.
