"The issue is NOT so much that people are anti government or anti tax -"

Yes; it is. They want no government; no clean air rules, no clean water act, no labor laws, et al. Defund the environmental regulators, defund the tax collectors, defund the gun regulators, defund the financial regulators, defund everybody but the military.

The issue is NOT so much that people are anti government or anti tax - it's that they believe we shouldn't be recklessly spending way more than we conceivably have the ability to pay back. Since alllllllllllllll their effort in the past has done nothing to move the needle on debt, they in frustration, have elected what we collectively call today the Tea Party.

If that were the case, they would vote for these various mixes of revenue increases and spending cuts that have been on the table. I don't think, thus, the deficit/debt is their issue. Most of them are either willingly in the camp of anti-government folk or are dupes of that camp. Pick your poison.

The Tea Party is a creation of the Koch Brothers, and other conservative groups and individuals including
Dick Armey. If it weren't for huge funding from those quarters into Tea party groups and superpacs, there would
be no Tea Party. It is most certainly not a grassroots movement. That is not to say there are not well meaning and concerned citizens who support their efforts, but without the organized push and funding from the extreme right, there would be no Tea Party.
