Koan has one constant theme in his posts on this subject which generally can be boiled down to this: If and my friends/peers could make out it out of Richmond, Calif anyone can. Unfortunately the time, circumstances, and people have changed for Richmond, California which Koan doesn't care to acknowledge. Is it fair to say some people growing up in the California ghettos could duplicate his success. Yup. Is it also fair to say most of them, for all the reasons you cited, couldn't. Yup. But don't ever expect Koan to acknowledge that there are shades of grey in the world.
