Dear Don: And further from the web site: Development of even more advanced head products based on the principle
of "giant" magnetoresistance (GMR) is also underway. Today, Applied
Magnetics is in volume production of inductive thin film and MR disk
heads and is developing GMR for the future.-----I think that clears up the previous comment. JDN

<<Development and commercialization of MR disk heads continue to
be a major investment for Applied Magnetics. In 1996 we entered
production on our first volume MR disk head program. >>

i remember APM stating that yields were low; low yields effectively equals no capacity.

<<We qualified for additional production programs in
1997,>>

name the contracts.

<< and we continue to ship prototype and qualification samples of MR disk head products to selected
customers for drive applications>>

shipping prototypes does not equal EPS.

<<The Company is increasing its investment in MR technology disk head products.>>

why, if they're already capable of producing them? perhaps behind the curve?

<<Company is currently underway with a second clean room expansion that is planned
to be completed by October 1997 and fully equipped by April 1998>>

hmmm, 5 months from now, and then they still need qualifications and contracts. they are very behind here, imo. What about EPS for next 2 or 3 Q's? Are shareholders just supposed to hold on til then? With only vague hopes to grasp?

both eyes open here, can you say the same?

regards,

Mike
