Yes, some stuff more expensive than elsewhere. Otoh, some things are bargains. It's a treasure hunt-- maybe part of the shopping experience. My local store almost always has customers purchasing a few things (often lower cost things though like consumables such as food) and waiting in line. From customer perspective (mine), wait to check out is too long. From stockholder point of view, maybe those fewer clerks reduces sales expense, helps margins. I also check the dumpster to see what the store discards -- Very surprising, but that's another story.

OT? - I don't get dollar stores either. We shop a lot at TJX, though some prices there are higher than what you can get on a out-of-season sale in Macy's for example. But overall, we like it. :)

Just discovered DSW for shoes recently. :)
