<<This is a no-brainer since the businesses you mentioned are Web-based. They also advertise in other media such as print and TV. Can you really tell the incremental effect of Internet advertising? I will accede your point about the effectiveness of Internet advertising if say GM sells more cars because of Internet ads or Anheuser-Busch sells more beer or Phillip-Morris sells more cigarettes!>>

Santhosh, you raise a good point!

The Web-based companies got an immediate boost in new companies by vigorously pursuing internet advertising. If you've been following Mr. Gates, there is a big push to move vending and other commerce on the internet. Look at DELL and Amazon.com. In the next few years I think most companies will be web based. This will move more business towards Yahoo!.

Who do you think has the best advertising medium to link to GM's buying site?

gmbuypower.com

Santhosh: << Internet advertising WORKS! E*TRADE and the other brokerage firms have had heavy increases in new customers since advertising on Yahoo! Quotes page. This was documented in BusinessWeek a couple of months ago. >> I beg to differ. E*Trade stock is down about 25% yesterday and today because the company stated they've experienced a DROPOFF of new accounts in November. And I've seen more Etrade banner ads last month than ever before. Ameritrade is also getting hit hard today. scott
