Lots of excellent points there Karen. The 50s was a remarkable decade and it was not that far removed in time from the Depression and WWII and yet, it still exemplified Americans at their best with great optimism for the future. If we learn anything from the era, it should be that the adults of the time didn't consider themselves victims because of all they went through growing up.
