"You're afraid to walk the streets without protection. I am not. Figure out why that is true."

Just going on what you have disclosed here... you moved away from southern California (a high violence region of the country) to live in a sheltered community in Seattle because you were traumatized. It seems like you said you are mostly a shut in as well. I've also noticed that other anti-gun people on this thread declare their communities to be free of the need for self protection. I believe those self disclosures are likely true which explains much about the differences. It is great that some people have the means to live in a safe sheltered community but most of the world's communities are not free of violence, and most of the worlds populations do not have armed guards standing at the ready. Personally, I prefer to move around as it suits me, rather than be hold up in a guarded or sheltered spot, wallowing in self pity while making demeaning comments about people who are actually doing something to make a difference. That is why your statement is true.

LOL. I left S.CA for a whole host of reasons none of which was a fear of violence. As for a being a shut in.......now that's the ultimate joke.

"You bet your sweet ass you are calous [sic]. I am tired of kids/people dying needlessly in a Newtown school, on the streets of Chicago and in a movie theater in Aurora."

I live in the Columbine school area, and have a grandson who will be a Freshman at Columbine High School next year. I have watched movies the Century 16 theater in Aurora a number of times and will be watching more there in the future (re-opened yesterday). I have raised children who became decent productive adults and I still have a teenager at home who is well on her way (taking Honors classes, Calculus in Sophomore year, pursuing medical career). I have worked continuously since I was 9 years old and am now a senior citizen, who plans to work until death. Much of my professional career was spent developing programs for high risk teens and working directly with that population. You on the other hand have self disclosed that you have never had a job, no dependants, or real contribution to the well being of anyone but yourself. I am not sure what you are basing your characterization on. One of us has devoted substantial efforts to care for kids on the streets and in risky school situations and that would be me. One of us has had an unshelterd life, dealing with kids/people in schools and on the streets, and that would be me
.

You are amazing. You hardly post on these threads and yet, you think you know me completely. You know what they say about making assumptions.........well it applies to you and your perspective on me.

"Some of us are able to do more than one thing at a time."

One of us juggles family, career, community activity, and a personal life to make a real difference and that would be me. Thanks for the compliment about my ass but it looks like you got the rest of it assbackwards...

Excuse me but you were the one who posted that there were more important issues than gun violence; that this country has a full plate and that it should not be tackled. Now you claim to be the ultimate multi tasker and anything is possible. Which is it?

"There is no reason why we can't reduce the gun violence in this country while tackling other important issues."

The massacres at Columbine, Century 16, and Newtown were unpredictable and anomalous except that the shooter selected gun free zones to strike. Two of these involved me personally and the third one was an unexpected and devastating blow to me emotionally. Nothing the government can do will prevent future strikes on gun free zones and making a certain number of bullets illegal is not going to change that. It is not callous, to notice the huge amount of political energy and expense is an exercise in futility. While, there are plenty of other venues we could be putting our energy into that would make real differences. With regard to other important issues, you are simply wrong. The American people have lost confidence in our gigantor govt to get things done because they waste time, money, and energy positioning themselves for popular appeal on feckless endeavors such as this.

Simple fact.............as the numbers of guns in this country have grown so has the frequency of these massacres as well as gun violence in our schools and our cities in general. Another simple fact.........the US is the most violent first world country in the world. That makes all of your explanation up above pure and simple BS.
