Nothing stupid about it, i-node. The idea that Reagan single-handedly brought down the Soviet Union, now that is stupid. How did he cause the economic stagnation that started years before he took office?

The takeaway from the Reagan years..........take Hollywood's money but never let them occupy the WH.

If you knew anything about the subject you would realize that that stagnation was the genesis of the decision to end the Cold War. Perhaps you should get off the Internet long enough read some REAL history of the era.

Reagan recognized (Carter didn't) that the USSR was in an economically weakened condition, and that SDI combined with other military pressures could bring them down and end the Cold War. This was a specific, calculated measure that NO ONE ELSE dreamed up. Reagan had, for some time, understood that the relative strength of the two countries was such that an arms race could end the Cold War.

The leftwingers, OTOH, were clueless. The big topic when Carter took office was how to end nuclear proliferation -- but Carter wanted to do it through weakness. Reagan, unlike Carter, understood that it had to be done through military strength -- but he also more fully understood the idiocy of MAD and set out to end it which he did, single handedly.

No amount of revisionism is going to change that. 25 years later, even many in the liberal media have acknowledged that Reagan ended the CW.
