What do you expect? " Here are some unscientific interest / beliefs that are more prominent among Democrats than Republicans: 1) GM corn and other GMO foods are unsafe. 2) Power lines cause cancer. 3) Cell phones cause brain cancer. 4) Organic foods are more healthy. 5) UFOs exist. [I take this one back, it seems that this is a belief primarily of "moderates".] 6) Crop circles are made by something other than people with too much time on their hands. [This is probably also a moderate belief.] 7) The WTC wasn't destroyed by fires caused by aircraft collisions. 8) The Pentagon wasn't hit by an jet airliner. 9) Nuclear power is more dangerous than other power generating methods. 10) Burying nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain would be unsafe. 11) Ghosts and various supernatural things (other than God, which is a Republican belief). [I'll retract this one too.] 12) Illegal drugs (made by morons in places like abandoned outhouses) are good for you. 13) The products of the drug companies are not as good as the products of "natural" medicine. After a little more research, I've concluded that UFOs, crop circles and ghosts may not have more support from Democrats than Republicans. But these are fairly harmless beliefs. For that matter, the belief that "man is not descended from apes" is also not particularly harmful. But unscientific lefty beliefs about nuclear power have largely stopped the industry in the US and other countries. This has caused vast amounts of CO2 to be put into the atmosphere. So No. The reason scientists vote Democratic is not about a war on science. It's because science is supported by big government and the Democrats support big government. In Nazi Germany, the German scientists supported Hitler's big government (other than the ones who had some moral quibbles about what was done to the Jews). Re: "You are ignoring this part: The second dimension (vertical or y-axis) picks up attitudes on cross-cutting, salient issues of the day (which include or have included slavery, bimetallism, civil rights, regional, and social/lifestyle issues). " You're quoting out of context. The next sentence is: "For the most part, congressional voting is uni-dimensional, with most of the variation in voting patterns explained by placement along the liberal-conservative first dimension.
