You're being tedious - without permission using a car not registered to you is theft even from a family member.

Same for a gun - but if I recall in this case he was unable to ask his mother as he had just killed her.

Also Lanza was not of legal age to own or even possess handguns.

So perhaps he inherited them?

I'm pretty sure the use of those guns was unauthorized and would not have been had she been asked for permission.
