I'll try to make it clearer.

I don't want a database of guns I have at my home posted on the Internet no more than you want your credit card, social security number, and address plastered all over the Internet.

I don't have a dog in this fight (don't own a gun) but there is a very good justification for stashing and not registering. Gun ownership by law abiding citizens has various purposes which I don't want to iterate. However, when it comes to protection, it is like any other defensive measure... you don't broadcast your strategy. You don't publish information about your home alarm system, details of your safe design and combination system, your methods of locking and securing your home, etc. You don't hand over your defense strategy during a board game. It is kind of pointless to register the details of your fire power, because anyone wanting to neutralize it's effectiveness could.
